Tutoria is a free online platform dedicated to connecting people in need with volunteer tutors. Tutoria’s volunteers help our clients learn English, prepare for the US citizenship test, and find legal aid.
The organization was born to address the frustrations and challenges faced by volunteers and clients when trying to meet for tutoring sessions:
- Unpredictable schedules
- The time and cost of transportation
- Difficulty finding good locations for tutoring
Our online platform is dedicated to making tutoring accessible, easy and free for those who need it.
How to Start Learning with Tutoria
Getting started on your knowledge journey with Tutoria is super fast and easy. Our volunteers sign up with Tutoria and set up their profiles to say what they can help with and when they’re available.
Finding a tutor with Tutoria is as simple as signing up at the Tutoria website and filling out your profile. You can access the website using any browser by typing tutoria.io into the address bar or by searching for “tutoria.io” in any search engine.
Create your profile
Once you’re on the homepage at tutoria.io, sign up by clicking on the menu in the upper right corner and then clicking “sign up as a client.”
From here, you’ll start filling in your information so we can help you find what you’re looking for.
When you start creating your profile, you’ll be able to choose how you want to meet with your volunteer tutor: online or in person.
If you choose to meet in person, enter an address near you so we can best connect you with the volunteers in your area. Note: This step is completely optional and we’ll never share this information with anyone.
Pick the days and times you’re available
In this next step, you’ll indicate what days of the week you’re available to meet with your volunteer as well as what times work best for you.
If you signed up to meet with your tutor in person, you can filter volunteers by distance. This option is only available if you entered an address in the previous step.
Once you’ve entered this information, you’ll get a list of knowledgeable tutors to meet your needs.
You can click on a tutor to see their profile which includes information about the volunteer:
- Where they’re located
- What days and times they’re available to meet
- Their ratings by past clients they’ve worked with
Message your tutor
From the tutor’s profile, you can send them a message and start a conversation with the volunteer. (The client has to be the person to send the first message.)
When the volunteer responds to your message, we’ll send you an email and you’ll get a notification in your Tutoria account’s inbox.
Access your account’s inbox by signing in at tutoria.io and clicking on the menu in the top right.
Your inbox will show you all your conversations with Tutoria’s volunteers.
You can use Tutoria to come up with a day and time to meet with your volunteer. You should also specify whether you want to meet in person or online.
If you prefer to take your tutoring sessions online you’ll also need to choose the platform that works best for you both. Our clients and volunteers typically meet via WhatsApp, Zoom or Google Meet but you can use whatever works best for you.
Lave your volunteer a rating and comment
After you’ve met with your volunteer, don’t forget to give them a rating on the website.
Tutoria is a community-based platform, so your feedback helps other clients find the services they need and allows volunteers to offer the best tutoring services possible.
